💦🛟 Waterpark Day – July 28 🛟💦
The first splash was never the problem.
It was the ten-minute argument beforehand.
“The water is freezing!”
“It is not.”
“You go first.”
“No, you go first.”
Then somebody gave somebody else a helpful little shove, and suddenly everyone was soaked, laughing, and pretending they had planned it that way.
That is the magic of a waterpark.
You may arrive carrying towels, sunscreen, snacks, goggles, flip-flops, dry clothes, wet bags, and enough supplies to relocate a small family.
But once you hit the first slide, none of that matters.
Waterpark Day, celebrated on July 28, honors those wonderfully chaotic places where grown adults stand in line to be dropped through trapdoors, children develop mysterious reserves of energy, and everyone agrees that lunch tastes better in a swimsuit.
Some summer memories are carefully planned.
Others begin with a giant bucket dumping water on your head.

🌊 A Holiday Made for the Hottest Part of Summer
National Waterpark Day was founded by Kalahari Resorts and Conventions in 2017 as a celebration of waterparks and the family adventures built around them. It falls near the end of July, when summer heat has fully settled in and almost any activity involving cold water sounds like an excellent idea.
Waterparks themselves come in all shapes and sizes.
Some are sprawling resorts filled with towering slides, wave pools, surf simulators, and indoor attractions.
Others are small community parks with a splash pad, a couple of slides, and a snack stand serving fries that somehow taste like vacation.
Their appeal is remarkably simple.
They let us play.
Nobody worries about looking sophisticated while floating past a plastic palm tree in a bright yellow tube.
Nobody maintains dignity on a slide called the Screaming Cyclone.
And nobody exits a wave pool with the hairstyle they arrived with.
That may be exactly why we love them.
🛟 The Summer Day That Lasted Forever
Waterpark days had their own rhythm.
You arrived early enough to claim a chair.
Someone immediately asked when it would be time for lunch.
The bravest person in the group studied the map and pointed toward the tallest slide.
The least brave person volunteered to guard the towels.
Children begged to stay in the water long after their fingertips had turned into raisins.
Parents reapplied sunscreen with the determination of people sealing a roof before a hurricane.
And then came the walk back to the car.
Wet hair.
Tired legs.
Warm towels.
A quiet back seat filled with children who had insisted five minutes earlier that they were not tired.
The whole day left you sun-kissed, exhausted, and happy in a way that only summer can manage.
🌞 Things Waterpark Veterans Understand
The line for the biggest slide always looks shorter from far away.
A lazy river is rarely lazy when children are involved.
Water shoes are not glamorous, but neither is stepping on hot concrete.
The family locker will be farther away than you remember.
Someone will lose a flip-flop.
Someone else will forget where the chairs are.
The wave pool turns every adult into a cautious lifeguard.
And the snack bar French fries will cost more than expected, but you will buy them anyway.
💦 Make a Splash Today
Spend the day at a local waterpark or community pool.
Try one slide that makes you slightly nervous.
Float around the lazy river without checking the time.
Pack a picnic lunch and enough water for everyone.
Create a backyard splash zone with sprinklers, water balloons, and inflatable pools.
Set up a homemade slip-and-slide on a safe grassy slope.
Challenge the family to a cannonball contest.
Make matching tie-dye beach towels.
Build toy boats and race them in a kiddie pool.
Visit a splash pad with younger children.
Take plenty of photos—but put the phone away for part of the day.
End the evening with dry clothes, cold drinks, and stories about who screamed the loudest.
🍽️ Dinner After the Final Slide
Waterpark food has its own category.
It is salty.
Portable.
Slightly messy.
And best eaten outside while wrapped in a towel.
Tonight’s menu keeps that carefree spirit but gives it a homemade upgrade.

🍎 Learning Without Staying Dry
Younger students can design their own imaginary waterpark, complete with colorful slides, pools, mascots, and safety signs.
They can also experiment with toy boats, ramps, funnels, and water tables to explore how water moves.
Older students can study the physics behind waterslides by looking at gravity, friction, speed, and slope. They might design a slide on paper, calculate ticket prices for a fictional park, or create a marketing campaign aimed at families.
A discussion about water safety, sunscreen, and hydration makes a useful addition for every age group.
Fun and preparation belong on the same ticket.
💼 Around the Office
Create a Waterpark Superlatives Board.
Ask coworkers to vote anonymously on playful categories such as:
Most Likely to Ride the Tallest Slide
Most Likely to Guard the Bags
Most Likely to Lose a Flip-Flop
Most Likely to Spend All Day in the Lazy River
Most Likely to Bring a Laminated Schedule
Announce the winners during an afternoon break with frozen treats.
No swimsuits required.
Human Resources will appreciate that detail.
🎬 Movie Pick - National Lampoon’s Vacation (1983)
The Griswold family is not technically headed to a waterpark, but no movie better captures the chaos, determination, questionable decisions, and exhausted optimism of a major family outing.
After one long day of hauling towels and locating missing children, Clark Griswold suddenly feels very relatable.
📺 TV Pick - The Middle – “The Summer of Sue”
The Middle excels at showing family life exactly as it often feels: messy, funny, frustrating, and held together by people who love one another despite everything.
Its summer episodes capture that particular blend of big plans, small disasters, and memories that become funnier later.
Much later.
