🥂✨ Prosecco Day – August 13 ✨🥂

There is a sound that can improve an evening almost immediately.

Pop.

Not an aggressive champagne-cork-launching-across-the-room pop.

Just that lovely little release that says:

The bottle is open.

The glasses are ready.

Whatever happened today can wait until tomorrow.

Prosecco has never seemed particularly interested in being serious.

It likes patios.

Brunch.

Summer evenings.

Weddings.

Girls' weekends.

Tuesday nights that accidentally become occasions.

It arrives cold, bubbly, and optimistic.

And on August 13, Prosecco Day gives us an excellent excuse to pour a glass, add a few friends, and celebrate the sparkling side of life.

Because not every toast needs a promotion, engagement, anniversary, or major announcement.

Sometimes:

"We made it through Wednesday."

is perfectly adequate.

🇮🇹 Bubbles with an Italian Accent

Prosecco comes from northeastern Italy, particularly Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Its story begins with the Glera grape, the primary grape used to produce Prosecco.

Unlike traditional-method sparkling wines that undergo their second fermentation inside individual bottles, most Prosecco gets its bubbles through the Martinotti-Charmat method, in which the second fermentation happens in large pressurized tanks.

That helps preserve the wine's fresh, fruity character.

Think apple.

Pear.

Peach.

Melon.

Citrus.

Flowers.

Basically, an Italian orchard decided to throw a party.

The result is a sparkling wine that tends to be lighter, fruitier, and wonderfully easy to enjoy.

No tuxedo required.

🥂 Prosecco Doesn't Wait for Special Occasions

Perhaps that's part of its charm.

Some drinks feel ceremonial.

Prosecco feels spontaneous.

It says:

Come sit outside.

Stay for another half hour.

Order the appetizer.

Put strawberries in the glass.

Invite the neighbors.

Open the bottle.

We'll figure out dinner later.

It can begin a meal.

Finish one.

Turn orange juice into brunch.

Transform peach purée into a Bellini.

Or sit happily beside potato chips while everyone pretends they planned an elegant wine pairing.

Prosecco is remarkably nonjudgmental.

🍾 A Few Bubbly Bits of Trivia

🥂 Prosecco is primarily made from the Glera grape.

🇮🇹 Authentic Prosecco comes from designated areas of Italy.

🍐 Common flavors include pear, apple, peach, citrus, and floral notes.

✨ Prosecco comes in different sweetness levels, so not every bottle tastes the same.

🍑 The famous Bellini cocktail combines Prosecco with peach purée and was created at Harry's Bar in Venice.

🫧 Those bubbles aren't decoration—the carbonation helps carry aromas toward your nose as you sip.

🍾 And despite what movies have taught us, you generally want to open sparkling wine with a gentle sigh rather than launching the cork into the ceiling fan.

Your light fixtures appreciate sophistication.

🌞 Give August a Little Sparkle

Chill a bottle and invite someone over after work.

Host a simple Prosecco tasting with two or three different bottles.

Make classic Bellinis.

Freeze peaches or berries and use them instead of ice cubes.

Create a build-your-own spritz station.

Serve Prosecco with salty snacks and notice how well they get along.

Make a cheese and fruit board.

Set dinner outside.

Use the good glasses.

Wear something you usually save for “somewhere nice.”

Toast something small.

A finished project.

A good medical report.

A kid surviving the first week of school.

A tomato finally ripening in the garden.

A friend getting through a difficult day.

Or simply having people around the table you are glad to see.

Not every celebration needs to be enormous to be real.

🍽️ An Italian-ish Summer Supper

Tonight we are not spending three hours in the kitchen.

  • Chilled Prosecco

Directions

  1. Spoon peach purée into a flute or wine glass.

For an alcohol-free version, substitute sparkling white grape juice.

Dessert should never require someone to miss out.

💼 Around the Office

Skip the alcohol and host an Italian Aperitivo Hour with sparkling water, Italian sodas, olives, cheeses, crackers, fruit, and small appetizers.

Add one question to the table:

What are we celebrating this week?

It doesn't have to be work-related.

Someone finally finished painting the bathroom.

Someone's kid learned to ride a bike.

Someone booked a vacation.

Someone's dog stopped eating the mail.

Small victories count.

🎬 Movie Pick - Under the Tuscan Sun (2003)

Italy.

Wine.

Beautiful scenery.

A life that refuses to follow the original plan.

Frances buys a crumbling villa in Tuscany and slowly discovers that the future she imagined isn't necessarily the future that will make her happiest.

It's warm, funny, romantic without being overly sentimental, and exactly the kind of movie that deserves a chilled glass nearby.

📺 TV Pick - Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy

Food, culture, regional traditions, beautiful scenery, and the irresistible pleasure Italians seem to take in gathering around a table.

Watching one episode may result in spontaneous airfare searches.

You have been warned.

💬 Save the Good Glasses for Tuesday

Somewhere along the way, many of us started saving things.

The good dishes.

The fancy candles.

The expensive soap.

The pretty dress.

The bottle we were given for Christmas.

We're waiting for an occasion.

But ordinary days are the overwhelming majority of our lives.

Maybe that's exactly why they deserve a little ceremony.

Put dinner on the pretty plates.

Light the candles.

Open the bottle.

Invite someone over even though the house isn't perfect.

Toast the tomato that finally grew.

Toast the project that finally ended.

Toast absolutely nothing.

Life doesn't always send engraved invitations when something is worth celebrating.

Sometimes you have to notice it yourself.

And sometimes,

It arrives with bubbles.
