ππ¬ Gummi Worm Day β July 15 π¬π
There was always one kid.
The one who would hold up a gummi worm between two fingers,
Wiggle it around dramatically,
Wait for someone to yell, "Ewww!"
and then eat it anyway.
Mission accomplished.
Somehow those goofy little candies became a permanent part of childhood. They showed up in birthday party goodie bags, Halloween buckets, movie theater candy boxes, and those unforgettable dirt pudding cups topped with crushed chocolate cookies.
They weren't fancy.
They weren't trying to be.
They were just fun.
Couldn't we all use a little more of that?

π A Sweet Little Wiggle Through History
Before there were gummi worms, there were gummy bears.
Created in Germany in the early 1900s, gummy candies quickly became a favorite because they were colorful, chewy, and unlike anything else in the candy aisle.
Then came the 1980s.
Someone looked at a gummy bear and thought,
"What if we made it a worm?"
Objectively, it's a strange idea.
Thankfully, nobody talked them out of it.
Kids thought they were hilarious. Parents rolled their eyes. And suddenly candy worms were everywhere.
Today they come in every color imaginable, sweet, sour, giant, tiny, and they've become less about satisfying a sweet tooth and more about adding a little silliness to the day.
Which is a pretty respectable job for a piece of candy.
π Things You Might Not Know
π Most gummi worms are actually made with two flavors fused together.
π Sour gummi worms became popular almost as quickly as the originals.
π° They've become the unofficial decoration for "dirt cups" made with chocolate pudding and cookie crumbs.
π₯ They're one of those candies that somehow always make it into a movie theater, whether they were purchased there or not.
π They're probably responsible for thousands of harmless practical jokes every year.
π¬ Adults claim they're buying them for the kids.
The evidence suggests otherwise.
π Ways to Celebrate
π¬ Pick up a bag of your favorite gummi worms (we have linked our favs!), and yes, you're allowed to eat them before you get home.
π¨ Top a bowl of vanilla ice cream with colorful candy worms.
π§ Make dirt pudding cups for the kids or for yourself. No judgment here.
π¬ Watch a favorite childhood movie with a bowl of nostalgic candy.
π¨ Create a colorful candy charcuterie board for family movie night.
πΈ Take a fun photo using candy to create silly faces or designs.
π Ask everyone to vote on the best flavor. Be prepared for very strong opinions.
π Spend a little time doing something that makes you laugh simply because it's fun.

Older students can learn about how gummy candies are made, design packaging for an imaginary candy company, or invent their own outrageous candy flavor.
Who knows?
"Sour Watermelon Pickle Explosion" might be the next big thing.
πΌ Workplace Fun
Set up a Candy Memory Jar.
Fill a jar with gummi worms and let coworkers guess how many are inside.

You'll learn a surprising amount about people from their candy choices.
π¬ Movie Pick - Wreck-It Ralph (2012)
The colorful candy world of Sugar Rush is packed with playful sweets, bright colors, and childlike imagination. It captures the same joyful, slightly ridiculous spirit that makes Gummi Worm Day so much fun.
πΊ TV Pick - Bluey β "Movies"
Like so many Bluey episodes, it reminds us that fun doesn't have to be complicated. A little imagination and maybe a sugary treat, can make an ordinary day unforgettable.
